This poster is part of the so-called "Major Illustrators" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1954 - 1963 and in which the cream of the crop of French motorsport illustrators such as Geo Ham, Jeudon and Beligond were hired for the design of the race posters.
The 1957 poster was after a color illustration from the hand of Jeudon. The change of illustrator from Geo Ham to Jeudon led to a radically different style.
The more modern illustration retains one of the main symbols of the mythic care - the night. The cars have been reduced to blibs on a radar screen.
The race was won by Ron Flockhart and Ivor Bueb in their Jaguar D-Type S/N XKD606 with a total of 327 laps to their name.
